Contractor signs on lawn
Main Post:
Can contractors put signs outside while they are working on my house? I have read that some offer discounts for having the what is essentially free advertising by having a sign by the road. I have not been offered this. Should I be compensated for displaying there sign throughout the project? Or future subs displaying there own signs?

I allow it if they do good work and I like them. Usually they ask me though and if they don't take it down after a couple of weeks, I just throw it in the trash
Contractor lawn signs: proper etiquette
Main Post:
Okay, hear me out. We have a neighbor and contractor who has done a few jobs for us recently: removing a tree and re-doing the concrete driveway. Each time he left a sign in our yard which is fine but this last time we took it down after a week and he asked if we still had it. Is there a customary time to keep this up for? Tbh the sign is rather hideous and we were going out of town.

That’s poor etiquette on their part.
Marketing costs money. A sign like that is pure marketing. They should have offered you a 5-10% discount on the work in exchange for putting up a sign that stays up for 2-3 weeks.
If he’s just dropping a sign without asking, you should feel zero guilt about taking it down.
Concrete contractors destroyed my yard

Im kind of venting here. Im still in shock over just how badly these contractors tore up my lawn. Im going to have to hire a landscaping company to come in and fix things. I just wasnt expecting it to be so bad. They didn't put any dirt back in the the areas they dug up. Ok. That's my fault I should have clarified all that. I should have asked for the play-by- play of what exactly they were going to do. If you take anything away from this don't be like me and assume anything, always ask for exactly what they're going to do. I thought that when they were done my son and I could just go enjoy our new patio. Yeah no. It's surrounded by a moat of mud and and a huge pile of rebar-filled dirt. I feel like crying but part of me is just Done with it. Honestly nothing ever turns out right when we hire contractors. So I shouldn't be surprised. Im just going to have to move forward with landscaping quotes. It's always something. Edit: they also disconnected my broken AC unit because they didn't want to wait for the AC contractor to come the next day. I presume they wanted to get the concrete poured before it rained that day. But now I have a broke ass AC unit in my front yard and I'm not even sure the AC company will take it since they didn't disconnect it. :*(

So, they’ve done thousands of dollars of damage to your yard and their response is “we left you some dirt to fix it yourself”?! I’d call the owner and discuss this with him. The rebar in the dirt is a hazard, at the very least.

Easy fix. Next time it rains go out and walk on the high spots. You'll figure it out once you begin.
Neighbors damaged my lawn
Main Post:
Well, their contractors did. They had some landscapers doing some brickwork in their backyard, and they drove a bobcat over my lawn all weekend while we were away. The tire tracks completely tore up my lawn. I’ve put a ton of time and money into my lawn this year and it was looking immaculate, and now it’s a mess. Do I have some recourse here or do I just have to suck it up?

A polite discussion with the contractor is a good start. I’m certain they will make it right.
